European policy for Hungarians

Accepting the invitation of Ferenc Glatz the leaders of three major alliances of Hungarians living beyond the borders of Hungary – Pál Csáky (Hungarian Coalition Party), Béla Markó (Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania) and István Pásztor (Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians) gathered for negotiation in the Social Research Centre of HAS. The introductory remarks of the host were followed by speeches of the three presidents and the discussion of experts including leading researchers of the Strategic Studies Programme of HAS, heads of institutes and Hungarian MEPs responsible for minority issues. As a result of the meeting the participants laid down the possible areas of future cooperation in a declaration.
Monarchy conference

26-27. June The Institute of History of HAS, the Europe Institute Budapest and the Institute of Eastern European History of the University of Vienna remembered the 90th anniversary of the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in the framework of an international conference. Apart from Ferenc Glatz who delivered the keynote lecture of the conference several acknowledged researchers of the topic participated in the conference, among others Charles Ingrao, Hans Lemberg and Arnold Suppan, as well as Dušan Kováč, Helmut Rumpler and Maciej Koźmiński. The event ended with the closing remarks of Ferenc Glatz who gave an overview of the results and latest findings of the conference.
Water management in the Carpathian Basin

Ferenc Glatz’s introductory remarks opened the government forum aimed to report on the achievements of the project „Water management in the Carpathian Basin” a joined research project of HAS and the Prime Minister’ Office. The participants of the event were welcomed by Gábor Csizmár, State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office. After Ferenc Glatz’s presentation university professor János Rechnitzer, László Cser, Director of the Institute of Informatics of the Corvinus University and László Kóthay, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment outlined the results of the project.
Payerbacher Hofgespräche

Ferenc Glatz delivered the introductory lecture of the conference Gemeinde – Eckstein Europas (Community – Cornerstone of Europe) held in the series „Payerbacher Hofgespräche“ and participated in the subsequent roundtable discussion. The event is organised every year by Horst Haselsteiner, professor of the Institute of Eastern European History of the University of Vienna and Dr. Walter Rechberger, retired dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna was also among the participants. Hungary was represented at the conference by university professor Zoltán Szász, as well.

Joint session of Romanian and Hungarian historians in Bucharest

23-24 May. The historian delegation of the periodical História, the Institute of History of HAS and the Europe Institute Budapest paid a visit to Bucharest on 23-24 May accepting the invitation of the Romanian Magazin Istoric. The Magazin Istoric has been urging a common editorial meeting for years, which evolved into a high level meeting of Romanian and Hungarian historians proposed by the Hungarian party.
